What is a seating chart?

A seating chart shows where people are assigned to sit. It connects a guest or student list to tables or individual seats, helping people find their places and organizers spot anyone unassigned.

Make a chart people can use

Use event mode for movable tables and household groups, or classroom mode for a desk grid with optional keep-apart rules. Add your own tables or desks, or choose a blank template.

From names to a printable plan

  1. Add names or import a Name-column CSV.
  2. Set table capacities or classroom rows and columns.
  3. Assign people and check anyone left unseated.
  4. Open Print / Save as PDF.

Keep the editable version

Plans stay in this browser. JSON preserves the editable layout; PDF keeps the display. Private notes are excluded from print but included in CSV/JSON. See methods and limits.

Questions about this seating plan

Is this seating chart maker free?

Yes. The seating tools, templates, CSV and JSON exports, and print options are available without an account or paid upgrade.

Can I generate a random seating chart?

Yes. Classroom mode can shuffle students across a desk grid while respecting the keep-apart pairs you enter. Event mode instead has a party-aware action for seating unassigned guests.

Does the chart update on another device?

No. The plan is saved in this browser. Download a complete JSON backup and restore it in the other browser to move the editable plan.
