Random seats, with rules you can inspect

Each student gets one desk. Optional pairs prevent immediate horizontal, vertical or diagonal neighbors. The generator does not evaluate student needs or classroom routines; review the result.

Worked capacity calculation: 20 students, 24 desks

Four rows of six provide 24 desks, leaving four spare places for a class of 20. This is a planning calculation; enter your own roster and grid in the tool.

Select two students as a keep-apart pair, then shuffle. Their assigned desks will not touch, including diagonally. Each rule applies only to its selected pair; enter every pair you need. Spare desks can help a solution fit.

What “no arrangement found” means

The tool tries shuffled candidates, then a bounded search. Failure preserves the plan; it may mean impossible rules or an exhausted limit.

In a 2 × 2 grid every desk neighbors every other, so one keep-apart pair is impossible. More rows change the possibilities. See the neighbor definition.

Keep the version you reviewed

There is no rotation history or guarantee of a different result. Save JSON before another shuffle, or use single-step undo. Print the reviewed chart with its full-name key. This is not an audited lottery generator.

Questions about this seating plan

Will every shuffle produce a different chart?

No. Random choices can repeat an arrangement, especially when there are few students or tight constraints. There is no previous-arrangement exclusion feature.

Does the generator use every desk?

Only if the number of students equals the number of desks. When there are more desks, some remain empty. There must be at least one desk per student.

Are all rule-compliant arrangements equally likely?

No uniform-probability guarantee is made. The constrained generator combines shuffled candidates with bounded search. It is a practical planning tool, not an audited random allocation system.
